Over the past couple of years, it seems like every celebrity and social media influencer has been boasting about the benefits of celery juice. From Gwyneth Paltrow to Pharrell Williams, many A-list celebs keep posting about drinking their green juices. Is it just a health fad? Or, is celery juice a life-saving beverage with healing properties?

Believe it or not, there is no magical formula. Celery juice is simply juiced celery. As Quick Roots owner Lori Quick points out, "there is no secret recipe." Quick Roots is a celery juice delivery company, and Quick says that the only ingredient in a celery juice recipe is "just straight organic celery."

What sets her celery juice apart is that "the cold-pressed and raw processing makes it the most potent and healthy."

Could Celery Juice Really Be a 'Miracle Juice’?

Celery juice started making a splash on social media thanks to "Medical Medium" Anthony William. The radio show host and New York Times bestselling author has been touting the benefits of drinking straight celery juice for years.

As Goop explains, William is "a force with a devoted following, working well outside the bounds of conventional science and medicine." William doesn't have any medical background. He claims to be guided by "Spirit" to help people get healthy.

"If people knew all the potent healing properties of celery juice that I’ve observed, it would be widely hailed as a miraculous superfood. In my opinion, celery has an incredible ability to create sweeping improvements for all kinds of health issues," William claims.

He says he started the movement of drinking pure, straight celery juice after seeing thousands of people who suffer from chronic and mystery illnesses restore their health by drinking sixteen ounces of celery juice daily on an empty stomach.

Why Celery Juice?

According to Quick, celery juice is definitely "the most overlooked healthy herb around." She says it has "tons of healing properties," including lowering inflammation, improved digestion, and improved skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

"People have been using it as a cleanse for years, but it's just now more popular as a daily routine," Quick notes.

Is There a Difference Between Eating and Juicing Celery?

William points out that eating celery stalks is very healthy and important, but he claims it's not the same as drinking pure celery juice. William claims that celery juice is most powerful when you drink it solo.

He explained that when celery is juiced, the pulp (fiber) is removed. He believes this makes its healing benefits "much more powerful," especially for those with chronic illness. William also points out that you can consume a lot more celery when you drink the juice as opposed to eating it.

The Medical Medium claims that plain, fresh celery juice "is one of the most powerful healing juices available to us." He believes it is the "very best way" to start your day. Once you make it part of your daily routine, William says "you won't want to go a day without it."

His celery juice recipe is literally one step: "Rinse the celery and run it through a juicer. Drink immediately for best results."

An alternative method is to chop the celery and blend it in a high-speed blender until smooth. Then, simply strain well and drink immediately.

Recipe Notes:

  • Whenever possible, use organic celery. If you are using conventional celery, be sure to wash it before juicing.
  • Once it is trimmed, you will need about 1 to 1.5 pounds of celery for a 16 oz. serving
  • The celery juice is most effective when it's raw and without anything else added.
  • The best thing is to drink your fresh celery juice immediately. If you aren't able to make it right before you drink it, store the juice in a mason jar with a lid and put in the refrigerator. It's important to drink the celery juice within 24 hours of making it.
  • You can freeze your celery juice and drink it as it defrosts, but it's best to drink it fresh.
  • If you find that straight celery juice is too bitter, it could be because of the celery leaves. You can remove them for a less bitter taste.

The celery juice from a company like Quick Roots will be a lot sweeter than making it in a juicer or blender. They only use organic celery cleaned in a fruit/veggie wash called FIT before rinsing it in cold water.

"The cold-pressed juicing process uses approximately 1800 psi to quite literally squeeze juice out of the celery," Quick explains. " Because you don't have to strain out the pulp (it's contained in a bag between the pressure plates), the juice is much sweeter than those done in a centrifuge or high-speed juicer."

The Best Method of Drinking Celery Juice

water with lemon

According to Quick, the best protocol is to drink water and fresh lemon juice (squeeze a half to full lemon into 16-32 ounces of water) first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

About 15-20 minutes after finishing the lemon water, drink 16-32 ounces of celery juice. If you have trouble drinking 16 ounces of celery juice at first, Quick recommends to start with less and work your way up to a larger amount. Do not eat for at least 15-20 minutes after drinking the celery juice.

Drinking Celery Juice Could Lead to Other Healthier Habits

Quick says that she became interested in celery juice because she was having a lot of issues with acid reflux and pre-menopausal symptoms.

"I went looking (and tried a bunch) of different diets and programs, but when I stumbled onto Anthony William's celery juice protocol, I really started seeing great results," Quick explained.

She says that once she started cleansing her system and repairing her gut health, everything else seemed to work better. Quick found herself actually wanting to eat healthier. But she admits that she first began, it was a struggle some mornings to drink the juice.

"Now, I actually crave it. And of course, the more I add healthy habits around the daily juice, the better I feel all around," Quick said.

What Are the Benefits of Drinking Celery Juice Every Day?

According to Quick, the biggest benefit of drinking celery juice every day is that it cleanses the system. Simply put, it helps the body work the way it was meant to. She explains that it works for those who have chronic illnesses as well as for those who have suffered the effects of a lifetime of unhealthy eating. She says that celery juice can provide benefits and improvements across the board—blood pressure regulation, gut health, digestion, skin conditions, energy, and kidney repair.

Is Making Celery Juice Easy to Add to Your Daily Routine?

The reason that Quick started her celery juice company is because it's not easy to make fresh juice every day. She says that she had gotten addicted to drinking the juice every morning, but the work of juicing it fresh everyday was getting to be more than she could handle. So much so that she was tempted to quit.

"The amount of time, space, and effort it took was almost outweighing the good I was getting from drinking it. I went searching for somewhere local to purchase raw, organic, cold-pressed celery juice. There was not anywhere. I tried to order it on-line but could not find anything to fit the bill," Quick said.

She says that most of the celery juice she found online is pasteurized to make the shelf stable. But this process "also kills all of the goodness drinking the juice provides." Quick decided that if she couldn't find what she was looking for, others were probably having the same problem.

"I had a background in catering, and feeling the itch to work with food again, we started Quick Roots Juice to try and fill that need," Quick revealed.
